Matt Chat 314: Jordan Weisman on the Origins of FASA and BattleTech

As promised, in the second part of his interview on Matt Chat, Jordan Weisman talks about his life and career, and specifically the early days. Starting from his youth as an underachieving dyslexic schoolboy, Jordan describes how his encounters with D&D, Star Wars and a naval simulator at the Merchant Marine academy he was enrolled at changed his life. Inspired by these things, he sought to develop a 3D multiplayer videogame based on the Traveller roleplaying system. To fund this vision, he would found FASA as a tabletop game publisher, leading to a Star Trek roleplaying game and eventually, BattleTech.

At the end of the interview, Jordan also talks a bit about the various BattleTech computer games that have been released over the years: the Crescent's Hawk series, the MechWarrior series, and also the controversial MechWarrior Online. All in all, it's an interesting watch. Hopefully Jordan can continue the tale from where he stopped in his Shadowrun interview.
