Tags: Skyshine Games; Skyshine's BEDLAMThe Banner Saga was a successful game, especially for a title developed by only a handful of people. Once its success became clear, it was only a matter of time before imitators showed up to replicate its simple but appealing formula. One of these was Whale Hammer Games' Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire, Kickstarted early this year and still in development, which seems to want to take the formula in a more narrative-centric direction.
The other one, Skyshine Games' BEDLAM, Kickstarted last year, aims to take the Banner Saga formula in a more strategic/roguelike direction. It features increased focus on resource management, and world travel using an upgradable mobile fortress that also participates in battles, all in a Mad Max-ish over-the-top post-apocalyptic setting. It should be noted that unlike Tahira, Skyshine's Bedlam (as it is has been known since it had a little trademark mishap with a similarly named indie shooter) actually uses Stoic's Banner Saga engine.
Anyway, after a very short stint in beta, the game was released today. Here's its short but effective launch trailer:
Looks pretty fun. You can grab Skyshine's Bedlam for $20 over at Steam. Impressions from the Codex's own Transfiguring Roar are available here. You can also wait for the gameplay livestream later today featuring none other than Obsidian's Tim Cain.
